    APRIL 2017

    April 8 – Hoppin’ Happenings.  Hopewell Recreation and Parks will host largest egg hunt in the City of Hopewell.  Event features egg hunt for ages 3+ (four age divisions), inflatable obstacle course, moon bounce, face painting, hay maze, egg toss, and special visit with the Easter Bunny.  Activities are free.  Children must be accompanied by an adult, and must bring own basket.  Concessions will be available for purchase.  Time is 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Atwater Park and Soccer Complex, 101 Atwater Road, Hopewell, VA.  Call 804 541-2353 for visit website at www.hopewellva.gov/recreation-and-parks

    April 22 – 5th Annual Kite Festival and Kite Festival 1K Fun Run (ages 5-12).   Hosted by Prince George County Parks and Recreation, this festival is a family-friendly event with kite demonstrations and fun contests for all age groups.  Children will build, fly, and take home their kite.  The 1K run beings promptly at 11:00 am.  Festival is from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Temple Park, 14307 Prince George Drive, Prince George, VA.  For more information call 804 458-6164 or website site at http://www.princegeorgecountyva.gov.

    April 22 - 29 – Historic Garden Week in Virginia.  Nearly 30,000 visitors tour beautiful homes and gardens across Virginia.  This year’s Garden Week offers nearly 250 homes, gardens, and historic sites to visit. For more information, go to www.vagardenweek.org

    April 29 thru October 7 - Appomattox Boat Harbor Concert Series. Great summer music fun every other Saturday on the Appomattox River.  Fantastic live music, food, and beer.  Gates open at 5:00 pm.  Some concerts require advance tickets.  Location is 1604 Fine Street, Prince George, VA.  Go to their website for latest band at www.harborblast.com, or call 804 536-1200

    April 29 – Lower Appomattox River Fest 2017.  Enjoy music food, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking and an assortment of fish, reptiles, amphibians, bugs, and other creepy-crawlers.  Family Fun.  FREE.  10:00 am – 3:00 pm, Appomattox Riverside Park, Ferndale Road, Dinwiddie (shuttle service provided from parking lots at Matoaca Baptist Church, 6409 River Rd and Matoaca United Methodist Church, 6301 River Rd).  Go to www.folar-va.org or call 804 861-1666 for more information.

    April 29 - Smokin’ Barbecue Festival.  This festival features all things BBQ, beer, sweet treats, music, and craft vendors.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.  Children 12 and under with adults are free.  Festival begins at 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, Old Towne Petersburg, 9 East Old St, Petersburg, VA.  Get more information at 804 733-8131 or http://www.petersburgchamber.com  

     

    MAY 2017

    May 7 thru June 11 (Sundays) - Sounds of Summer Concert Series at Weston Plantation.  FREE.  Enjoy a lazy, summer afternoon live concert at 5:00 pm on the lawn of one of Virginia’s riverside plantations.  Summer breeze and music to suit everyone’s style and taste.  Location is Weston Plantation, 400 Weston Lane, Hopewell, VA.  For band playing and other information, call 804 458-4682.

    May 10 – September 13 - Rockin’ On the River Concert Series at 6:30 – 8:30 pm, FREE.  Events are sponsored by Hopewell Recreation and Parks at the Hopewell City Marina, 1051 Riverside Ave, Hopewell.  For more information and the band that will be featured, call 804 541-2353 or visit their website at www.hopewellva.gov/special-events/.  (Concert is every other Wednesday during the series beginning May 10.)

     

    JUNE 2017

    June 17 - Wonder City Craft Beer Festival (2d Annual).  Craft beer, live music, and good food drinks).  Festival Park, 200 Appomattox Street, Hopewell, VA.  For latest information go to www.hopewellva.gov/special-events and open the calendar or call 804 541-2353.  More information to be announced at later date.

    June 24 – Get Your Butts to Broadway.  Annual barbecue competition with beer and music from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Downtown Hopewell, 205 E.     JULY 2017

    July 4 - Ft. Lee 4th of July Celebration, Ft. Lee.  Centennial Fourth at the Fort with concerts at Williams Stadium.  More information at a later date at www.facebook.com/FortLEEFMWR or www.lee.army.mil.

    July 4 – Independence Day.  Celebrate the 4th at Pamplin Historical Park.  Enjoy costumed interpretaters, see artillery firing and color guard domonstrations, experience life for the Civil War soldier, and explore life on an authentic 19th century plantation.  Park located at 6125 Boydton Plank Road, Petersburg, VA.     July 15,16 – 42nd Annual Pork, Peanut & Pine Festival.  10:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. At Chippokes Plantation State Park, 695 Chippokes Park Rd, Surry, VA.  There will be live music, petting zoo, antique cars, craft vendors and more.  Cost is $5.00 per person and children 10 and under are free.  For more information go to http://chippokes.com/events.php#ppp.
