Nicole Riley, Deputy Secretary of Commerce & Trade, Commonwealth of Virginia
Nicole Riley was appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin to serve as Deputy Secretary of Commerce & Trade in June 2022. Nicole brings more than 20 years of experience related to government relations, public policy development and association member advocacy.
Prior to joining the administration, Nicole was Virginia state director for National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) for 10 years where she was an advocate for Virginia’s small businesses. During her tenure, Nicole oversaw NFIB’s grassroots activism, political involvement, and member development efforts along with serving as the organization’s media spokesperson on issues impacting small businesses. In addition to her state director duties, Nicole co-led a statewide business coalition of over 30 business organizations on labor, employment and tax issues impacting the Commonwealth’s business community.
Previously Nicole worked as a contract lobbyist in the Richmond office of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott LLC and also served in legislative and public policy roles for former Attorney Generals Jerry Kilgore and Bob McDonnell. She began her career as a Legislative Assistant to Delegate Steve Landes.
A native of Augusta County, Nicole holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Roanoke College. She has served several organizations including as former Chairman of the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP) and a gubernatorial appointee to the Virginia Small Business Commission. Currently, she volunteers as a board member of the Virginia 4-H Foundation and 2810 – A Community Gathering Place established by her church, Area 10 Faith Community.
Greetings: CASCOM MG Mark Simerly, Fort Lee, VA
Major General Mark T. Simerly assumed the duties and responsibilities as the Commanding General for the Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM), the Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCOE), and Fort Lee on July 9, 2021. Previously, he served as the J4 Director, United States Forces Korea from June 10, 2020. He was commissioned as a lieutenant of Air Defense Artillery and awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the University of Richmond. MG Simerly holds a Master's of Science in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University and a Master's of Military Arts and Sciences Degree from the United States Army Command and General Staff College.
His command assignments include the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Daegue, South Korea from July 2019 to June 2020; Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support, Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from July 2017 to June 2019; 4th Sustainment Brigade, Ft. Hood, Texas from January 2012 to August 2013; 704th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas, when the unit re-flagged as the 27th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division and deployed to Tallil, Iraq from June 2008 to June 2009; Bravo Company, 801st Maintenance Support Battalion, Division Support Command, 101 st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Ft. Campbell, Kentucky from December 1996 to May 1999.
Major General Simerly's key staff assignments include Director of United States Forces Korea J4 at Camp Humphreys, South Korea; Director of Combined Arms Support Command Capabilities Development and Integration at Fort Lee, Virginia from August 2015 to June 2017; Ill Corps Assistant Chief of Staff, G4 at Ft. Hood, Texas from February 2014 to July 2015; United States Forces- Afghanistan Director of Logistics, J4, in Kabul, Afghanistan from August 2013 to February 2014; Assistant Chief of Staff, G3, U.S. Army Operational Test Command from July 2011 to January 2012; Senior Combat Service Support Observer Controller at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Ft. Polk, Louisiana from September 2009 to July 2011.
His military education includes the Air Defense Officer Basic Course, the Combined Logistics Advanced Course, the Command and General Staff College, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and the Army Force Management School.
Major General Simerly's awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Award, Legion of Merit with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, 2nd Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, NATO-ISAF (Afghanistan) and the Army Meritorious Unit Award.
Major General Simerly is married and has two adult children.
