Let's Chat December -CANCELED - TO BE RESCHEDULED IN 2023
Michelle Olgers will bring us inspirational information on a subject she is very passionate about...affordable, nutritious food grown on thriving farms.
Imagine a world in which every person, everywhere, has access to affordable, nutritious food grown on thriving farms. Michelle Olgers, Communications Officer at the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR), will share how FFAR builds collaborative partnerships to support the audacious science to make this vision a reality. Congress established FFAR in the 2014 Farm Bill with a $200 million investment to advance public food and agriculture research and required that FFAR match every federal dollars with at least $1 dollar from nonfederal sources. Congress refunded FFAR in the 2018 Farm Bill with $185 million and the same matching requirement. To date FFAR has collaborated with more than 550 nonfederal partners on 293 research grants totaling $365 million. On average, FFAR garners $1.40 from nonfederal partners for every federal dollar, more than doubling federal investment and delivering a powerful return on taxpayer dollars. Michelle will explain the food and nutrition issues FFAR is working to address, discuss the value of public-private partnerships and share breakthroughs that ensure Tri-Cities residents and people around the globe never experience hunger or food-born illness, our farming practices leave minimal impacts on the environment and our farming families have productive incomes.
