AMC's Monument to Film in Hopewell
AMC’S MONUMENT TO FILM IN HOPEWELL
Hopewell, VA—The City of Hopewell is excited to announce the filming of AMC’s Monument in Downtown Hopewell during the first two weeks of August. The series will follow in the footsteps of the popular AMC program The Walking Dead, now in its ninth season, and the current offshoot series Fear the Walking Dead, which both rank among the most-watched cable series on television.
Production of the ten episode series will begin in Central Virginia this summer. The show will be the second AMC series to film in the Commonwealth, following the critically acclaimed Revolutionary War spy drama TURN: Washington’s Spies, which filmed four seasons in Virginia from 2013–2017. The series will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come- of-age in the franchise’s apocalyptic realm.
Some of the filming for a critical scene in Monument will occur along Hopewell Street between East Poythress and East Cawson. The production team will begin dressing and decorating the street on Tuesday, July 30th. They plan to wrap and have the set removed by Thursday, August 15th. The scene will feature a plane crash, and the production team is bringing in a 737 fuselage that will be sprawled across Hopewell Street to set the scene for the plane crash.
Hopewell Street between East Poythress and East Cawson will be closed from Wednesday, July 31st at 6:00 p.m. to Thursday, August 15th at 6:00 p.m. Detour signs will be posted to navigate travelers around the street closure. The filming will occur overnight on Wednesday, August 7th; Thursday, August 8th and Tuesday, August 13th. East Broadway Avenue between Route 10 and Kippax Street will be closed from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7th and Thursday, August 8th; and 3:00 p.m.-5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13th. There may also be intermittent traffic control on streets surrounding East Broadway and Hopewell Street during these filming times.
There will be no parking along the north side of East Broadway Avenue between Library Street and Kippax Street from Wednesday, August 7th at 5:00 p.m. thru Friday, August 9th at 6:00 a.m. and on Tuesday, August 13th from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 a.m. There will be no parking along the south side of East Broadway Avenue between Library Street and Kippax Street during filming, which will occur between 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7th and Thursday, August 8th; and again between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15th.
