• Best Place to Live on a Freshwater River in Virginia

    May 23, 2017
Hopewell and Prince George County VA are bounded on the North by 22 miles of riverfront. The access from marinas, national parks, public overlooks, trails and bridges is spectacular. Birders, fishermen and wildlife enthusiasts love the abundance of natural resources.

On a recent trip with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) leaving the Jordan Point Yacht Haven Pier, we spotted 14 bald eagles, osprey, and a peregrine falcon. We sampled river life using an Otter Trawl. We caught and released long nosed Garr, white catfish, bullhead catfish, bluegill, white perch, black crappie, large hog choker, juvenile blue crabs, channel cat, shiners, and sunfish. The diversity of river life was plentiful.
