• Fishing in Hopewell VA

    June 19, 2017
Fishing out of the Hopewell City Marina is both a recreational activity and a competitive sport with the Appomattox River, the James River and many creeks branching out from the James.  There are many opportunities for the beginner to stand on a public dock and fish and for the serious sportsman to win a local catfish tournament in the Catfish Capital of Virginia or compete in a Bass Tournament.  Local fishing retailer Fish Tales Bait and Tackle at two locations in town, is available to help anglers connect with local tournaments and fishing spots (804) 452-2220.

Going after a “big cat” on your own or with a guide or finding that trophy large mouth bass isn’t the only fishing here.  You can catch rockfish, crappie, croaker and other fresh water fish.

Public docks, marinas, boat and bait shops are also easily accessible.  Fishing by kayak or canoe is also possible thanks to two new launches in Hopewell.

Be sure to stop at the Hopewell Prince George VA Visitor Welcome Center and pick up the latest issue of the Freshwater Fishing and Boating in Virginia guide and don’t forget to obtain a fishing license.
