H/PG Chamber Membership Breakfast honors two presidents, presents 17 awards and attracts over 150 members
The Hopewell/Prince George Chamber’s 6th Annual Membership Breakfast and Awards Ceremony on February 22 attracted over 150 members and community leaders to Upper Shirley Vineyard for breakfast and networking. The event honored retiring Chamber President Wendy Austin, Consultant and Executive Director of Friends of the Lower Appomattox FOLAR, and Incoming President Bruce Brockwell, Executive Vice President and Chief Banking Officer of EVB Bank.
William Coada, Charles City County Chairman, Board of Supervisors, gave welcoming remarks. Event Chairmen Stacy McKeague, Evonik, and JoAnna Korkos, Destination Theater, provided kick-off. Sponsor Earnest Greene, Dominion Energy, introduced keynote Chris Saxman, Executive Director, Virginia FREE.
Beverly Epps, John Randolph Medical Center -Chairman of CHART (Chamber Recognition Team, announced the annual award winners: Innovative Practices - Sunflower Gardens; Environmental – Virginia American Water; Beautification – Appomattox River Peanut and Wine Co.; Health & Wellness – Virginia Family Dentistry; Business Growth – Service Center Metals; Safety – HCA John Randolph Medical Center; Exceptional Customer Service – Heaton’s Lawn Maintenance and Landscaping; Community Service – Fort Lee Military Volunteers; Quality of Life – Central Virginia Health Services – Hopewell/Prince George Community Health Center; Prince George County – Stairway to Success.
Chamber CEO, Becky McDonough, gave a review of the past year using performance metrics for 2016 and introduced the Chamber staff.
Retiring President Austin presented five awards:
Harlan Constructions Co, Inc., James R. Jones, Builder, Inc., and J.W. Enochs, Inc. received the President’s Award featuring original art by Danny Riddle.
Tamara Krueger, Hyatt Place Richmond Chester, was recognized as Ambassador of the Year and Bob Latino, Reliability Center, Inc., as the Staff Choice for Volunteer of the Year.
Cavalier Square Limited Partnership, and Walkers Certified Welding, Inc., were recognized for 25 years of Chamber membership.
Wendy Austin introduced Bruce Brockwell as the incoming President. Mr. Brockwell’s message emphasizes partnership and collaboration, the chamber’s role in promoting tourism and the strength of the organization as evidenced by the sold out event.
