Hopewell Receives Grants to Refashion Park

May 09, 2017
Following Earth Day and the philanthropy and volunteerism that surrounds it, many transformative projects are now underway that will solidify Hopewell and Prince George County as a destination for outdoor recreation and exploration of the natural environment. Site plans for the City Park Playscape have received approval and construction will begin in a few short weeks, bringing a new vision for the park to life.

Selected by the American Water Charitable Foundation and the National Recreation and Park Association as a recipient for a Building Better Communities grant, Hopewell will refashion City Park as a place for nature exploration and education. Nature exists there in the form of water, trees, soils, and the many ecosystems essential to the functioning of the riparian buffer, all of which has inspired the design of a new playscape. A blend of nature-themed play equipment and boulders, logs, and earth mounds will create spaces for children to be adventurous and unleash their imagination. Interpretive signage will educate park goers about regional ecology and the unique environment of the site.
