Hopewell Redevelopment and Housing Authority will deliver COVID-19 preventative kits to public housing residents.
HOPEWELL, VA, June 18, 2020 – Hopewell Redevelopment and Housing Authority (HRHA) will distribute COVID-19 preventative kits to 308 public housing families residing in three communities managed by the agency.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has made funding available to public housing agencies nationwide under the CARES Act for COVID-19 safe and preventative measures. The funding is intended to reduce the spread of COVID-19 amongst families residing in public housing communities.
Craig Wise, public housing manager for the Piper Square community, is project manager for the planned distribution. Notices will be sent to all public housing residents and distribution of 668 hand sanitizers and 18,000 face masks will be given to families by July 15, 2020. Residents selected to assist with the project will receive stipends from the housing authority. “The health and safety of residents is an ongoing and paramount concern for the agency. The current health emergency in our city and nation only heightens our resolve to provide safe affordable housing to low-income residents.” according to Mr. Steven Benham, HRHA’s CEO.
