How Can Every Citizen Acknowledge Memorial Day?
Memorial Day honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, their life. Visiting a National Cemetery is one way to honor the fallen. We observe locally with a Memorial Day Ceremony in Hopewell, VA beginning at 11:00 A.M. at City Point National Cemetery located at 10th Avenue and Davis Street in Hopewell Virginia. This year’s Keynote speaker will be Brigadier General Rodney Fogg, Commandant, Fort Lee Quartermaster Center and School, 54th Quartermaster General.
You may join fellow Americans in pausing at 3 p.m. to voluntarily and informally observe a moment of remembrance and respect. If you have a US flag, you fly it at half-staff until noon and then raise it to its full height.
If you like TV, then watch the Indianapolis 500 which has been held in conjunction with Memorial Day since 1911. Look for veterans who may distribute red poppies in a public space. This has been an official tribute to the fallen since 1920. Scan PBS for the National Memorial Day Concert. Enjoy time with family and give thanks to our freedoms.
