H/PG Chamber Board Announces New President Dana Newcomer
Hopewell/Prince George, VA – The Hopewell/Prince George Chamber of Commerce announces the appointment of a long-time active member Dana Newcomer, Associate Vice President for the Community College Workforce Alliance. Newcomer ascended to the role following a year as the Vice President of the Board, assuming the role on January 1, 2023. This appointment is just one of many strategic Chamber actions on the start of the Chamber’s 102nd year of service to the region’s businesses and community.
As a career and technical education (CTE) educator in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, Dana followed her professional aspirations when she and her husband relocated to the region. She joined the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) – the workforce division of Brightpoint and Reynolds Community Colleges, as an Apprenticeship Coordinator and has earned increasing levels of responsibility managing workforce training programs across multiple sectors and working with many companies in the HPG Chamber.
Dana earned her Master's degree in Project Management. She also earned certifications as a Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Program Planner (CPP), and Scrum Master (CSM) Certified. Her primary office is located at Brightpoint Community College. Her skills in program management, workforce development, and knowledge of many of the needs of employers in the chamber, make her an ideal choice for a time when talent recruiting, retention, and development is critical for most organizations.
“I am inspired by our Chamber and its passion for bringing together and supporting our members and community,“ Newcomer offered. “Our board has a diverse representation of Hopewell’s and Prince George’s industries, who are professionals that are ready to be engaged and are excited to help cultivate and strengthen our business community. I truly look forward to seeing what this term brings, and I invite members and the community experiences our HPG Chamber through our many endeavors.”
Also, joining Dana on the executive committee are: Jeremiah Johnson, Papermill Superintendent, WestRock Hopewell Mill-Board VP; Robin Moore, CPA-Board Treasurer; Nicole Fernandez, Touchstone Bank-Board Secretary; Colin Romanick, Executive Director, Pamplin Historical Park-Board Past President. “We see 2023 as a year of operational innovation which will enhance member engagement and give us more time to devote to our members and the community,” Becky McDonough, CHPG Chamber CEO added. “Tourism revenues have grown for the city and county in the past years, so we will continue our work to grow tourism, including a growing relationship with Charles City County, which includes our collaboration with others to launch a new tour this spring through five river-facing jurisdictions. Other priorities include strengthening our relationship with local government as we navigate the uncertainties and celebrate successes. We will continue to support successful initiatives that improve the community's health and vitality.”
