Located on a 5.5 acre wooded lot in Prince George County, Scents of Cedar is a cedar log home turned into a bed & breakfast by Innkeepers Kathy and Bill Parley. The Parsleys have been hosting guests at their 4,800-square foot cedar log home since 1999. Bill supervised construction and design of the home in 1997; it was featured in the Original Log Cabin Home sales catalog in 1998. Scents of Cedar offers five different accommodation packages, which include Kathy's home-cooked meals. Just so you'd know before you go -  Petersburg National Battlefield announces winter hours of operation:  Beginning Jan 2 and continuing through Feb 29, 2016 visitor centers and contact stations at Petersburg National Battlefield will operate on the following schedule:
- Eastern Front Visitor Center:  Sunday-Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm  
- Grant's Headquarters at City Point and the Five Forks Contact Stations,
Thursday-Monday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Jan 28 - Poetry, Prose, Pizza.  Where can you get poetry, prose, AND pizza FREE?? Nathan Richardson, published poet and youth mentor, will host an evening to share original or favorite poetry or prose selections.  The Hopewell/ Prince George Friends of the Library sponsor this event, along with Luca Italian Restaurant. Didn't get a chance to see all the Christmas Lights.  Well, you are in luck the Dominion GardenFest of Lights, "H2Whoa!" is still open through Jan 11, 2016, from 5:00 pm -10:00 pm at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, 1800 Lakeside Ave, Richmond.  More than half -million lights, botanical decorations, and trains await you!   Ticket Pricing: $12 adults, $11 seniors (age 55+), $8 children (ages 3 - 12), Free for children under age 3, $7 Garden members, $5 Child on Garden Membership (ages 3 - 18).
Jan thru Aug - Every Kid in a Park.  Have you visited a National Park recently - for FREE?  The National Park service has an ongoing Program that began in Aug 2015 and continues through Aug 2016 to get kids and their families into the National Parks.  This is a special opportunity for 4th graders to act as ambassadors.  If your child is 10 years old or in fourth grade, they can participate in a fun online activity and receive a voucher for a FREE 4th Grade Annual Pass to the National Parks.  Print the voucher and take it with you to a national park for free entrance.  Must have your 4th grader with you.  For more information go to: http://www.nps.gov/kids/index.cfm or call 804 732-3571.  Enjoy some fun, quality family time, and fresh air in a National Park this YEAR!
