River Walk Phase 1 Now Open to Public
After what turned out to be rather short wait, the first section of the new River Walk and FOLAR Trail segment in Hopewell is open. A large crowd turned out on Saturday, April 6th to witness the ribbon cutting ceremony and tread on the boardwalk for the first time. Clouds gave way to lovely sunshine as visitors streamed onto the waterfront structure. Delegate Riley Ingram, Mayor Jasmine Gore, members of City Council and Staff also turned out for the occasion. Citizens and visitors can now access the 1700 foot long section of the River Walk they call "Phase 1" from City Park in Hopewell, Virginia. The City of Hopewell has already acquired the funds for Phase 2, which will extend the current River Walk to the Hopewell Marina. Eventually, the River Walk will be an integral part of the 23 mile long FOLAR Trail, which will run from City Point to Lake Chesdin. For more info, click here.
