. Community Beautifies Route 36 Gateway and Seeks Adopt-A-Spot Partner & Volunteers
HOPEWELL, VA – A community beautification effort made possible through a grant from Keep America Beautiful brought new life to one of Hopewell’s key entrances this past weekend. On Saturday, October 18, 2025, volunteers from Keep Hopewell Beautiful (KHB), the Wonder City Garden Club, and Fort Lee soldiers joined forces under the leadership of Councilor Lovena Rapole and KHB members Carol Carr and Stephanie Dayberry to enhance the LOVE and Welcome signs along Route 36.
Together, the group collected about 115 pounds of litter and refreshed the landscaping at both gateway signs. At the LOVE sign, volunteers added new plants and mulch, touched up paint, and restored the area’s vibrant appearance. The Welcome sign also received fresh mulch, new plants, and general clean-up. All supplies and plants were purchased locally, helping to support Hopewell’s economy while promoting environmental stewardship. Councilor Rapole shared her appreciation for the strong turnout and teamwork.
“This project shows what can happen when people come together to take pride in their city,” said Rapole. “We’re especially grateful for the Fort Lee soldiers who rolled up their sleeves to help us make Hopewell’s entrances shine, and to the KHB members whose dedication keeps these projects moving forward.
