    PAMPLIN PARK ROUNDTABLE SPEAKER TO PRESENT "THE BATTLE OF FRANKLIN"

     

    JANUARY 27, 2026

    Petersburg, Va. – Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier welcomes Mr. Andrew Gallagher who will present on February 5, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. to the Petersburg Civil War Roundtable. Mr. Gallagher will share stories from his new book Twilight of the Confederacy: The Battle of Franklin.

     

    The Battle of Franklin, fought on November 30, 1864, in Tennessee, was a disastrous Confederate defeat and a pivotal Union victory, often called the ""bloodiest five hours"" of the Civil War. Confederate Gen. John Bell Hood ordered a massive frontal assault against Gen. John M. Schofield’s entrenched Union forces, resulting in 9,000 casualties total and over 6,000 of them Confederate which shattered the Army of Tennessee. Gallagher will explore this important but overlooked battle based on research from his book titled Twilight of the Confederacy: The Battle of Franklin.  

     

    Andrew Gallagher has a Masters degree in Humanities from Marshall University and a BS in Journalism from West Virginia University. He was a longtime adjunct teacher of history at West Virginia State College, teaching courses on the Civil War and a longtime reporter for The Associated Press, UPI, and The Charleston Gazette.

     

    The Petersburg Civil War Roundtable (PCWRT) will meet the first Thursday of each month (except for the months of June, July and August) at Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier from 7:00 pm-8:00 pm. Annual membership is $40.00. Individuals who are already members of Pamplin Historical Park can become members of PCWRT for $20.00. Non-members can attend for $5.00 each meeting.
